Here is Joan with her masterpiece. This has to be seen to be believed. It's a design of a very attractive Italian Style village near Portmadoc, North Wales. She wanted this to look like a fantasy because it is a fairy tale village. Have a look at their website Portmeirion - Welcome to the official Portmeirion Village website.

This is a detail of the front of the work.

Here is the back.

Here is Miriam busy sorting out her fabrics and arranging them ready to stitch.

Above is her work from a class she did with Bobby Britnell - Textile Artist.

More to follow.

We're Back(Project development)

Our project on Snowdonia is coming along well. We chose a photo of an area of Snowdonia surrounding a lake called Llyn Dywarchen. Tywarchen is a clod of earth or turf and this is an island in the middle of the lake. The unusual thing about it is that it floats. Find some information about it here The Lakes page
When I was a child my father used to tell me fairy stories from this area. Bradic Traditions shows the island clearly.

Here is the image we are working from. This was scanned and marked into 12 rectangles and numbered. We were then each give a number and that was the one we had to develop in our own chosen style.

Today some of the group brought their work to show.

Just a general idea of how they are going to look together.

Gwyneth has finished hers and it has been framed temporarily, but I'm afraid the quality of the photo is not good. The work is wonderful.

Rhiannon has also finished hers and framed it. You can see how good this work is. Next time I'm taking a photo of something under glass I shall put it flat on the table as I did with this one.

Here is my attempt. This one has been done using the Janome Xpression Embellisher with added machine stitching
